By now you have probably heard about Logan Paul. If not, he's a Youtube "celebrity" that recently filmed himself in Japan making fun of a suicide victim. It sparked global disgust and outrage and has since been removed from Youtube. Before it was removed it had been viewed 6 million times and most of his viewers are mostly young people.
It is important to discuss issues like this when they come up. Seeing incredibly graphic content displayed in a mocking manner can be debilitating for young people who may or may not have developed coping mechanisms to such material.
For this post please comment about your reaction to this case. Were you aware of who he was and what happened? Who should be held responsible? With just a click of a camera we can instantly transmit high offensive and morally repugnant content. How far is too far?

When I heard about this, I first saw it on social media and was truly disgusted. After seeing it once, I began seeing it everywhere and it couldn't be ignored. Suicide is a serious topic and seeing someone who has an influence on the younger generation mock someone who took their own life is very disturbing. I was not a fan of Logan to begin with and hearing this terrible news makes me dislike him more. I do think that he should be held responsible as well as Youtube for not taking the video down sooner. I also think Youtube should be able to monitor its videos and be able to delete inappropriate content right away.
ReplyDeleteI was familiar with Logan Paul before the incident, but i never watched any of his videos. When I found out, I was completely amazed that this person thought is was okay to post such a thing. It should never have even been filmed. It is most definitely not okay to make fun of someone with a mental illness like that. Many of Logan's viewers could easily have been depressed or suicidal and watching it could push them to the edge. YouTube should never hesitate to take such a thing down. Logan shouldn't even be allowed to post anymore. Suicide is a serious topic that should not be taken lightly by anyone. What bothers me is that many of his fans said that it wasn't his fault or that he didn't know better and were defending him. Logan even paid his manager to release false accusations about another famous YouTuber (Shane Dawson) to distract viewers from what Logan did. What Logan and his manager did was disgusting and outrageous.
ReplyDeleteIt is truly appalling to know that a celebrity, whom people look up to, was making fun of a serious thing like suicide. The sad thing is that he is an influence to the young adult/teenagers/children. The younger generation are learning from Logan Paul that suicide is nothing, but a joke. I think it is partially Youtube's fault for letting him post such a video in the first place. Of course, it is Logan Paul's fault for even making the video and not thinking that anything was wrong with it.
