The Power of Blogs

In the last post we discussed how a community of readers gives new life to a blog. The great thing about blogs is that they can be about anything and it is a fresh perspective from outside the mainstream. Do you love to travel? Start a travel blog and it becomes your unique view on the topic. For this post I want you to pretend this is your blog. Write a post about a recent experience you had with something you have a strong opinion about. It can be negative or positive. Your post should be 6-10 sentences at a minimum. Compare and contrast what you are writing about with other things similar to your topic. For example: If you are writing about a record from a particular artist, compare it to similar artists or the artists earlier work. Same for restaurants, etc. See examples for ideas. The key is to be passionate

Ideas:
  1. Movie review
  2. Music review
  3. Travel experience
  4. Restaurant review
  5. Fashion review
  6. Technology

  1. I have recently watch Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and it was a great movie. Spiderman is an iconic superhero that has been in other movies such as Spider-Man (2002). In fact, one of the reasons why I watched it was to see how it compares to the original Spider-Man movie. Now, the actors for both Spidermans (Tom Holland for 2017 and Tobey Maguire for 2002), were amazing. The spidermans in each movie were a little bit different. For starters, the 2002 Spiderman seemed older than the 2017 Spiderman. Another thing the Spidermans best friends. The 2002 Peter Parker had the wealthy Harry Osborn as his best friend, while Ned was a nerd like Peter Parker. Now to villians: The Green Goblin was the villain in the 2002 movie while vulture was for the 2017 movie. The two villains are different in their own ways. For example, Green Goblin was Peter Parker's best friend's father, while Vulture was Peter Parker's love interest's father. Their way of fighting is different too: Vulture used a vaporizing gun while Green Goblin used gas bombs and his superstrength. The plot line between the two movies is different also. In the 2017 movie, Peter Parker is already Spider-Man, but has to deal with school with the help of Tony Stark and later Ned. In the 2002 movie, Peter Parker gets bitten by a spider and has to try and figure it out all on his own. Now even though there are some differences, there are some similarities. One of them is that both Peter Parker's are both just regular students. They both get their powers from getting bitten by a spider though. There is a love interest for both Peters, but they are not able to keep them in the end for their job as a superhero is too much work. Despite its differences, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a very good movie which I recommend for those who haven't watched it to do so.

  2. I recently started watching a tv show called “The 100”. It is a post-apocalyptic show in which there was a nuclear apocalypse and everyone who “survived” is in a spaceship in space under a government called “The Ark”. Since oxygen and food is limited, the Ark doesn’t hesitate to kill anyone who goes against the law, as long as they’re over 18. Everyone under 18, however, is kept alive until 18 and will then be killed for population control. The spaceship is running out of oxygen now and the estimated years for earth to recover haven’t passed yet. Since the 100 prisoners under 18 will die anyway, the Ark sent them down to see if the planet is survivable, which it is. In fact, there are others who survived and lived on Earth for centuries. The show is very suspenseful but keeps you drawn in with comedy and action. It follows the main character, Clarke, who is one of the 100 (she knew of the food and oxygen shortage and wanted to tell everyone). She and her friends are played by very talented (yet unknown) actors. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs a new show to watch on Netflix. There are 4 seasons, but I am only up to season 2 and I’m sad because I’m halfway through. All in all, “The 100” is an amazing show.

  3. I have been watching the TV show "The Office" (US) for quite a few months now, and I think it's great. It was originally aired in the UK with different characters and actors in 2002, but soon came to the US in 2005. It is my go-to show especially when I need a good laugh. I, however, have never seen the UK version. But, I have heard that the characters in the show are kind of oppressive, which sounds bad compared to the characters that I know, who try to make a boring office job, well, less boring. For those who like and understand dry humor, the US show is definitely something to look into. The bosses Michael Scott (US) and David Brent (UK) are differ. Scott is more carefree in the office, while Brent is just simply mean. Overall, I find the US version to be more appealing to others. One thing I would like to note is that the first season is very boring but gradually gets funnier as you connect with the characters!
